The Cleveland Monsters are a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL) based in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. The team began play in 2007 and since 2015 has served as the top affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Monsters play home games at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in downtown Cleveland and have one Calder Cup championship, after winning their first title in 2016. The Monsters continue a longstanding tradition of professional hockey in Cleveland, which includes the AHL’s Cleveland Barons, winners of nine Calder Cups.
Fans have come to expect fun, affordable, family entertainment from the Monsters, enjoying such promotions as 1-2-3 Fridays ($1 Sodas, $2 Hot Dogs, and $3 Beers) and Monsters Family Days, plus other favorites like “Cleveland Rocks” Night and Pucks & Paws. As the top affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Columbus Blue Jackets, fans are also able to watch the future stars of the NHL competing in Cleveland. The Monsters are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse organization and also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Chairman and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Canton Charge of the NBA G League playing in nearby Canton, Ohio at the Canton Civic Center.
